What are Playgroups?

Playgroups are free, drop-in gatherings for young children with an adult.  There are over 30 a week in Chittenden County and unless indicated, they are open.   It’s a great place to meet other families and find out about resources in your community.  Each playgroup is facilitated and includes fun, safe toys and materials for kids, and information for parents.

Most playgroups are for children ages birth through five years of age with an adult.   Some playgroups are limited to the youngest children (pre-walkers) in order to create a quieter space for babies.  Some playgroups take place in a large gym to allow kids and families to run and get exercise.   In one community playgroups are rotated to different people’s homes.  There is also a special monthly playgroup just for twins and their parents.

Playgroup Schedules
Generally, playgroup schedules are fairly consistent from September to May and then change in summer (June- August).  Many playgroups are at local schools, and so follow the school closing schedule.  If you are going to a playgroup for the first time, it is a good idea to call ahead, as schedules or locations may change.
